Rating Rationale: Within a 40-minute album, Anne-Marie shows off her mezzo range, cheeky lyrics, and her continued reign as the queen of samples. In “OBSESSED,” she samples “I’d Do Anything” by Mark Horsey, and in the production between the choruses and verses of “PSYCHO” you hear a sound that’s reminiscent of Antonoff's production on “I Did Something Bad” by Taylor Swift. Hot take, but in a pop world that’s currently dominated by “sad girls,” it’s refreshing to hear an artist who thinks “it’s so last year being a SAD B!TCH.” Contrary to the album title track, Anne-Marie’s album emanates positivity and female empowerment through a tracklist of mainstream pop production and serene acoustic ballads. Her vocal performance shines on her solo tracks, and her duets with Aitch, Shania Twain, and Khalid perfectly complement the defiant nature of the album.

Primer: Following in the footsteps of other generational songwriting talents, we think Rosie has massive career potential that will win listeners over with her relatable lyricism and poignant metaphors. While our chart doesn’t show Rosie’s maximum potential, we consider this a noteworthy co-sign.

Songwriting as Therapy: After graduating from Elon University, Rosie embarked on a cross-country journey to Los Angeles to continue her pursuit of music and songwriting. While songwriting is often one of the many aspects of a musician’s repertoire, for Rosie, it’s central to her disposition and style. Both conversational and evocative, her writing sessions have become a therapeutic unpacking of complex emotions, idealized through lyrics representing her past experiences or the experiences of others.

Genre: Pop, minimalist, and sad but with immense versatility compared to most artists.

Influences: Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, Imogen Heap, Coldplay, LANY

Current Label: Nettwerk Music Group

What’s Next: After dropping a string of singles this year, including “Nail In The Coffin” with Boy In Space and most recently, “Boxes,” we have high expectations for her upcoming debut album. In contrast to her previous EPs (Golden Age and Coping), her LP should be much more stripped down, utilizing more natural instrumentation and less digital production. So as we wait in anticipation, we’ll leave you with the official music video to one of our favorite (and very cleverly written) songs:
