Rating Rationale: After capturing her first #1 album on the U.K. charts, Maisie Peters is proving that The Good Witch is more than just her maturation in songwriting, it’s an album in which her quintessential Y2K pop sound has real staying power. On the surface, the album is a clear expression of an archetypical breakup, with songs like “Lost the Breakup” and “Want You Back.” However, the deeper symbolism that brews interest is the interconnected concepts of choice, perspective, and intention of those feelings. To help visually represent both the theme and branding of her sophomore album, Maisie dropped a tarot card alongside each song on her album. We’re no psychics, but Maisie’s relatable lyricism and unique vocal sound give her a lot of upside. “Watch” and “Therapy” embody her potential.

Primer: We saw Tenille at her Troubadour debut in Los Angeles, and we can tell you - this Saskatchewan country singer-songwriter is another strong vocalist making a name for herself in today’s new wave of female country artists.

‘Cause When You’re Fifteen: It’s safe to say Shania Twain was THE trailblazer for all the fellow Canadian female country artists who’ve followed in her footsteps. Growing up in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, country music was a staple growing up in the Arts household. After years of piano, voice lessons, and talent competitions, Tenille began recording cover videos, in which one of her singing “Fifteen” by Taylor Swift caught the attention of a talent manager in Nashville. After finishing high school, she decided to move to Nashville and pursue country music full-time.

The Butterfly Effect: After an emotionally vulnerable moment singing “Growing Old Young” in which her closest supporters surprised her by sharing signs of encouragement mid-performance, Tenille performed “Butterfly Effect,” which she calls a “love letter to her fans.” From the early days of her self-titled debut EP to making a name for herself in the U.S. with her performances on The Bachelor, she’s garnered an incredible fanbase, particularly after the release of her sophomore album, Love, Heartbreak, & Everything In Between. The album included “Somebody Like That,” which became certified Platinum, Tenille’s first #1 hit, and the first country single to go #1 that was written, produced, and performed by an all-female team.

Genre: Country

Influences: LeeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, and Kelly Clarkson. During her Troubadour show, she performed a medley that included songs from these country-pop powerhouses. Last fall, Tenille released a song called “Jealous of Myself,” which LeeAnn Rimes later discovered and subsequently recorded a duet version with her.

Current Label: Dreamcatcher

What’s Next: Her latest single “Summer Don’t Go” dropped less than a month ago, and she’s building momentum for her third studio album later this year. She kicked off the show by saying it would be the first album she exclusively owns (shout out to Taylor Swift for establishing the precedent of owning your catalog to increase negotiation power).
